A. With Penguins on the Beach

The World First Trial!

There is very blue and bountiful Tachibana Bay before our eyes at Nagasaki Penguin Aquarium.
'Penguins are in the man-made space only. We wanted them to swim in the ocean!'
... So we started the new challenge "With Penguins on the Beach" from July 2009.
This is the world first trial to show penguins-in-captivity at the natural sea.

What is the Beach Like?

We renovated the sea shore of Nature Zone adjacent to the Aquarium so that penguins can swim there.
Penguins can swim in the natural sea bounded by nets and fences. Once released, more than 10 Humboldt penguins enjoy freedom in and around the sea. Total area is about 3,700 Square meters.
Different from the pool at the yard, they can feel tides in the sea, and enjoy the open beach with a variety of species.
You can share the same space with penguins with the sea breeze, and observe penguins similar to wild ones.

How to Enjoy the Beach with Penguins

We renovated the sea shore of Nature Zone adjacent to the Aquarium so that penguins can swim there.
Penguins come very close to you on this beach. You will have fun with a variety of ways like closely observing penguins swimming in the sea and playing on the sea-shore, and taking pictures with them, etc... You will be attracted by penguins a bit different from them in captivity. You may also see penguins having a meal in more dynamic and wilder way.


B. Let's Ride a Kayak

You are a friend of the ocean!
It's really cool to row a kayak with the sea breeze.
Let's try!


C. Biotope

We have a biotope from the parking No.1 to the aquarium. This biotope has been made similar to the country side of Nagasaki where you can observe plants and nimals in each season, like insects and a school of killifish!
